Dissection of a Hamster

Before you scroll down, make sure you are ready to see some guresome pictures...
If you have or had hamsters maybe it's best not to go further...but I do challenge you to.I mean, all in the name of science...
So,on tuesday morning,I rushed to school. This is because I only knew about the dissetion the night before and I was bunking over Mookie's place after we had dinner.And...actually I was supposed to watch Indiana Jones with my family that morning.
Anyways,Gabe had to fetch me home in the morning so that I can get my stuff and take a good bath before I depart for school.
By the time I reached school....I was an hour late.
Thank God my Bio teacher didn't start anything yet.
So when I cane,she too a dead...hamster?
I THOUGHT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A RAT!

I CAN'T DISSECT A HAMSTER!
I remember I was playing with Mookie's hamsters the night before. They were so cute! And now...I could see a dead HAMSTER on the dissecting tray...
I was speechless.
I gulped down my saliva as the teacher flipped it over and pinned it.It looks as if it is being crucified.

I'll save the details for later...
It was my turn to dissect my hamster...
Frankly speaking..I was scared and I was sad..I couln't believe that I have to be this cruel!Kill a hamster?(According to Yuen Chern-hamster expert-it is called Golden Hamster)
Sad.

Anyways,as you can see below...that is my dead hamster...killed with excessive exposure to cloroform.

Check out the teeth!!!I am so sad...it was a big hamster though. But I would prefer it if it was a rat.I use to have hamsters as pets...I miss them. They were very noisy though...

How di I start dissecting?
Pin a little of the skin and make a hole with special scissors...then cut cut cut...until the whole streach of skin beneath is cut.
Then I'll have to skin the hamster...and pin the skin.

It was neat but disgusting. Can you see the fats attached to the skin? This is a sign to show that it is a female.Loads of fat under the skin.
This is a sad picture...How did I do that I do not know.I was trying to keep myself focused.Trying not to think that it's a hamster...

Now we enter the abdominal cavity...
As you can see below,it is the alimentary system, after I cut the closed up sac as you can see at top.

The dark red is the liver. It has four lobes. You can see a bit of the stomach...
So later, after I cut the inner muscles,I have to pin it back.Below is a clearer view...
The alimentary system is a little messed up.
You want a closer look??
Not very clear but can you see the round stuff? Those are unwanted stuff ready to be excreted from the anus.
The pink sausage like thing is the small intestine.

Below...

A clear view of the stomach..it's comparatively small, but of course it can expand!Look at the veins...If I accidentally cut any,it will start bleeding and bleeding...

Want to go on with this tour? After I examined the whloe alimentary system,I had to cut them out to reveal what is below...

So,here it is...

Those are the kidneys. When I was removing the alimentary system from the body,I had to cut one of the vital viens that every vertabrate has and blood was gushing out like nobody's business.I had to clean it with loads of cotton...

Below is a clearer view of the diaphragm. It is like a very thin layer of muscle..it almost looks like plastic. Also look at the fat surrounding the kidneys,it is there to protect the organ.

Now let us move upward and check on the respiratory system.I had to cut the sternum to open the ribcage.Had to apply force on this one...It was fragile in a way because I didn't want to destroy the diaphragm. So very slowly, bit by bit I cut the ribs out...like cutting cardboard to form a jigsaw puzzle.

AND...the heart and the lungs are revealed...

The heart is located below the marron blob.If I am not mistaken, that is a blood clot. You also can see it's little lungs...pinkish orange. My teacher said they are very healthy lungs.Sigh...why did I have to kill them?Above, you can see the trachea.I got this after I cut out the heart and the lungs.Again,it bled like crazy because I had to cut out the aorta which, just in case you do not know,is the main artery that suppies blood to the body. It's what you call, the artery of all arteries...hehe.
The two blobs above are cheek muscles...it was a cute chubby hamster.Sob sob.

The end result...
After I removed everything..Not bad right.I did it!Phew...

So this is what it looks like...cruel but I had to do it!Yuen Chern objected this act riotous times...Well,sorry...Javern wanted to know more anyway.Eventually we had to stop all dissecting hamster talk when Yuen Chern threatened to drop us on the roadside when we were on our way to Feringghi Rock.hehe.
Sorry Chern...haha.
It was interesting right,Javern?

We just did the dissection too, this morning. But we did go further on the brain part. The heart still beating even after roughly 55 minutes of dissection. Unfortunately I forgot to cut the heart to see the left and right part just like what we supposed to do in Form 5. I did dig out the shit from the anus... :] Soon or later I will make a post about it too... geekmail.blogspot.com

Would you do this to a human being? im sure you wouldnt so why is it so different for that poor little hamster??? So you learnt exactly what you can learn from picking up a book? and you murderecan innocent life form in the process. What kind of school teaches children that it's ok to kill? I can't belive what this world is coming to... Just think about how you would feel being murdered with cloroform then split open before your heart has even had a chance to stop beating!! I don't care who this teacher is. He is sick in the head and should n't be teaching. I hope you never do anything like this agin!!!

Don't pay attention to Silverfox. He's just jealous of your rich and traumatic experience. My hamtser died this evening. I've decided to dissect it; two reasons: firstly, I'm very curious to see the inside of my hamster. Secondly, I want to see how I will react/feel to cut open something that I was emotionally attached to. I'm challenging myself.

So, thanks for sharing your experience and pictures.

~That is the harshest thing i have ever seen in my life you are sooooo mean why did u kill a perfectly good hamster just so u could bisect it WTH~

Clearly, the people who are against this dissection have no interest in the medical field. 1. If you find is so disturbing, why did you come to this site and look at the pictures? 2. How do you think the books got the information about the anatomy of a hamster? Someone had to dissect it to find out where everyhing is to actually put it in a book. 3. If you hate it so much, don't do it and stay out of the medical field. Simple..

You're sick. All of you killing hamsters. In the name of what? Who will benefit from that?
Damn it... So sick...

I'm a junior at a university, and i just thought it would be fun for you to know that even my professor has been using your photos as a reference for the dissection we did in class! Great pictures! Hehe:)

I've done this before and it is a very special feeling especially the first time. I really wish that it would be part of the school system here in Denmark, everyone should know this stuff and respect where meat comes from how the organs work. At the same time that there is a part to be taken that should be respected, before you go and pick up your chicken or beef at the local store. Prepare your food with the respect of the animal that once lived, while you mince it and show it up its own guts to make sausages. Mmm :-D
